Kevin Forrester wins 2014 Ballarat Cup on Mujudale

Racing News

ballarat-cup-mujudaleA huge crowd of racing enthusiasts turned out in their droves to the Ballarat Turf Club’s first standalone cup meeting on Saturday to witness Stawell galloper Mujudale score a resounding victory in the 2014 Sportsbet.com.au Ballarat Cup.

Trained by Paul Jones and ridden by Kevin Forrester, Mujudale led all the way to score an emphatic 3.25L victory over At First Sight and Fat Al to win the $200,000 listed event.

Jones was always confident the son of Mujahid would acquit himself well in the cup following his impressive Ararat Cup win earlier in the month.

“We were really happy with him going into the race,” Jones said.

“The way he kicked clear at Ararat I thought was a good indicator.”

“We were fairly confident even during the run he’d be able to do the same.”

“He was strong to the line.”

It was a super ride by Kevin Forrester to capture his first home town cup.

“He’s just a very fit horse,” Forrester said after the race.

“He’s done a good job into the head wind.”

Forrester summed the race up perfectly and had his rivals under pressure before the turn.

“I just rated him and put them under pressure, and I’m riding a fit horse,” Forrester said.

For Ballarat born and bred Forrester, who is working rider for local Ballarat training duo Barry & Glen James, it was a sweet result.

“Yeah, sweet as,” Forrester said shortly after the race was over.

In a race that attracted the country’s best trainers & jockeys, it would be Paul Jones, a small trainer from Stawell, and Kevin Forrester, an experienced, local journeyman, who would combine to add another memorable chapter to the historical pages of the Ballarat Cup.

In other feature racing news on Ballarat Cup day, the $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic was taken out in stylish fashion by Gai Waterhouse trained 2yo filly Carriages.

Carriages, a daughter of Hinchinbrook, was rated to perfection by jockey Craig Williams, leading all the way to win by 2 lengths from runner-up and race favourite Prompt Return.

Moral Outrage finished third and Carriages ran a time of 0:59.40 for the 1000 metres.

Brendan McCarthy trained debutant Murt The Flirt claimed the $100,000 Magic Millions 3yo Classic over 1100 metres thanks to a brilliant ride by Chris Symons.

Murt The Flirt finished strongly to defeat Boundary and Guajeo in a time of 1:05.79 for the 1000 m

Making Mayhem, from the Mick Price yard at Caulfield, won the $100,000 Thomas Jewellers VOBIS Gold Eureka Stockade over 1400 metres.

Making Mayhem brought up her second victory in four starts when she proved too good for Durendal and Profit Shares in a time of 1:25.66.

An estimated crowd of around 10,000 people attended the the Ballarat Turf Club’s inaugrual standalone Saturday cup meeting and it had a city race feel on the day.

With $1,000,000 in prizemoney, ideal weather, and fantastic racing, we can’t wait for next year!
